The German Werkbund, as an organisation which prominently was concerned about the conditons of life, building and design of Modern industrial culture, in 2005 issued a most challenging competition brief. Again after 1923 the foundation was seeking for a project that reflects on the future of building culture. With the ‘Villa Urbaine’ our office has developed a GREEN BUILDING prototype of an urban setting, of common urban space and large courtyard houses, that connects urban density with the desire for private green outside space. (1st prize / category inventive housing)

Following the bionic principles of a branching tree, the structure of the Orang-Utan Large Outdoor Enclosure combines constructive needs with the the interpretation of the natural environment of the Orang Utan – a treescape to climb and play.
